COURSE DESCRIPTION Effective business managers know how to read, understand, and use financial statements. But how do they learn those skills? They follow a process, the first step of which is to learn the basic concepts of financial accounting.
Introduction to Financial Accounting, developed in collaboration with the executive education program at the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, teaches those concepts in an intuitive way - without dwelling on debits and credits - that has worked for thousands of executive students for more than a decade.
GOALS
After completing this course you will be able to:
- Translate real-world business activities and transactions into the language and conventions of accounting
- Construct conventional financial statements using an intuitive methodology
- Assess the impact of business decisions on profits and liquidity
- Read and understand those financial statements with confidence
CASE SIMULATION
In the case simulation, you are an assistant to an entrepreneur who is starting a chain of specialty coffee stores. Your job is to express the various activities of the business in the language of accounting. You'll construct the financial statements that she needs to understand and manage the profitability, liquidity and capital deployment within her company.
